Alluring AlUla
Located on a crossroads of civilisations, AlUla is an Oasis City on the incense trade route that’s been inhabited for thousands of years. With its labyrinth of tightly packed streets, vibrant date groves, sprawling moringa trees, hundreds of mudbrick buildings, and a colossal watchtower fort, AlUla’s Old Town is one of Saudi Arabia’s most impressive heritage sites.
The ancient people of AlUla built their houses closely, lined up to form an impenetrable fortress to protect their city from external dangers. In the past, the city wall included 14 gates that the local people opened in the morning to receive merchants, pilgrims and travellers, and closed in the evening.
With the help of residents, researchers and historians have collected memories and details of daily life within the town’s walls. These stories will introduce you to the living memory of this exceptional destination.
